Sharda Maxine Harrison

Theatre Practitioner

Sharda Maxine Harrison came and had a frank sharing, as a friend, in the studio. It seems like giving away parts of herself is part of her performing practice. She came to the studio just before a session of muay thai training, so I got this shot showing off her fighting spirit. In this time of social distancing, to really meet someone and talk honestly is a gift. Thank you, Sharda.

Two people came together as friends. A photographer and an actress. We moved in a studio that was soon to become a memory. He stood with camera in hand, and I with my hand wraps. Initially, because of time, a certain awkwardness stood in between us. With every turn of my hand wrap and gentle beckoning of his lens, however, we slowly unveiled a layer of ourselves to each other. By the end of the session, a few hours later, it felt as if two people had come together, in a vulnerable time in their lives, to share. And perhaps when such authenticity is experienced, does the ticking away of time work as linearly as we assume it to? For I sometimes feel as if I am back there with him, in that studio, sharing, quietly; unveiling, quietly; revealing, quietly.
