Serene Tan
Dance practitioner
In 2019, the National Arts Council asked me to photograph Serene Tan for an exhibition to promote Chinese dance. We had a wonderful session making photos at the Marina Barrage, and I got to learn more about Chinese dance. Serene is capable enough to run a Chinese arts school, Sheng Hong Arts Institute; this makes her more mature than her years. And yet, you can still see in her the curiosity to find out more and live life to the full.
It is my greatest pleasure to work with Ngiap Heng on multiple projects, and then get to know more about who he is. In the time we have spent together, I felt his love and everlasting experiments with dance, body expression, and ultimately people through both verbal and nonverbal communications. Drama Mama parties brought arts practitioners from different walks of life together; he created an intimate, fun, and interesting space and captured us in our realest forms—it could not be more Ngiap Heng than this!
