I remember hanging out with Rei Poh when we were both still single. In many productions, the theatre director-actor was always the joker in the pack; it was always fun to share a laugh with him. One day, he brought his girlfriend, Zee Wong, to my shooting party. During the next shooting party, I brought Choo San, my girlfriend. Now, Rei is married to Zee, and I am married to Choo San. As much as my portraits are about the people I meet in the arts, they are much more than the people I work with—they are my friends, my tribe, my family.

Zee: I have met Ngiap Heng only once or twice. Each time, he exudes kindness and thoughtfulness.

Rei and I seldom take photos together. So, it is really precious that we have Ngiap Heng’s portrait to remember that time by. We were but babies then!

Now, we are older, wiser, and also married and living together with our three beautiful cats. Thank you, Ngiap Heng, for capturing that moment in time. How precious it is to get to look back and see how far we’ve come.
