Michael Cu Fua
Multidisciplinary Artist
The first wedding photography clients I had were Michael Cu Fua, originally from the Philippines, and his Singaporean wife Cynthia Tan. True to their unconventional natures, they had their photo shoot at the old Changi Hospital and their solemnization and wedding dinner at The Alkaff Mansion. Now, Michael is an architectural design consultant and multidisciplinary artist. Our friendship has grown over the years.
It’s such an honour to be a part of Ngiap Heng’s Drama Mama portraits. I enjoyed the photo shoot session at The Pond, his former studio inside a beautifully conserved shophouse in Joo Chiat. I’ve always adored Ngiap Heng’s works. I attended his solo exhibition, Eyes Wide Open, at Alliance Française in 2003, and acquired one of the enormous photos, of café settings in St Mark’s Square with pigeons—it seized my attention and has haunted my imagination ever since. I still have the gorgeous piece today. After years, I am still looking forward to Ngiap Heng’s future projects.
