Claire Wong

Theatre Practitioner

Ever since I saw Claire Wong in TheatreWorks’s Desdemona (2000), I knew that she was someone to look out for in the Singapore theatre scene. With her husband Huzir, she started Checkpoint Theatre, which not only puts on some of the best theatre in Singapore, but also nurtures new talent and publishes books and comics of arts and culture.

I am grateful to still be able to move and to dance, to make art. I’ve known Ngiap Heng for several decades, and to be able to still share this connection is a rare and wonderful thing. He has traversed an array of different pathways, making his way through life and art. And that’s something I’ve also tried to do, to keep learning and growing as a person and as an artist. It’s been a challenging two years, but there were still many moments of joy and fulfilment, and I’m glad he got to capture it.
