Jacklyn Kuah
Theatre Practitioner
I met Jacklyn Kuah, a theatre and movement practitioner, when she was directing a play called Mandala (2014), by InSource Theatre. I found it interesting that she was inspired by the work of Theatre OX, which was established in the mid-1990s, and was continuing to work in the same spirit. Like Theatre OX, Mandala was more a piece to be experienced rather than understood intellectually.
For someone who is more devoted to the process than product, I really appreciate that my work was selected to be documented as part of Ngiap Heng’s project Work in Process (2011–16). If not for Ngiap Heng’s collaboration with LASALLE, I am not sure if there would have been anyone interested in, or even caring about, our creative processes.
His shooting party is one of the best parties I have been to. I enjoyed hanging out with creatives over music, wine, dining, dance, and shooting. Will there be another shooting party?
As for this portrait, some things are clearer through the drunken glass.
